Radio interference (esp when braking)
« on: 27 January 2009, 14:23 »
Does anyone else get radio interference when driving? I get little clicks which can seem to increase with revs (am thinking dizzy or sparks) and lots of fuzz when I'm braking.

I get this on most FM radio stations, although sometimes a retune will make it go away.

I also used to get this in my old valver so am thinking it's systematic, although they both had Sony headunits (but different models)

Any suggestion to track down or eliminate?

It could be your ignition leads starting to break down, or you could fit a new suppressor to the alternator. Also a good idea to check all your earths under the bonnet.

The metal strap from the bonnet to the top of the wing on the NS is to stop this i believe

Sounds like something that's easy to get broken or removed by a previous owner, will have a look to see if I can find it.

AS already stated, bonnet earth strap on the N/S hinge has probably snapped due to old age..

Yep, there's two big bits of metal spade but nothing between them.

Do I need anything special or just any old wire (coated to ensure it doesn't touch anything else)

Would like the replacement to look like it's supposed to be there.

Have a good look under your bonnet, it could still be there somewhere, with a bit of luck.. and easily repaired, failing that, a trip to the scrappers!
