The Multifunction wheel is very different to the normal one. Where the side clips go either side of the airbag on the spokes on the MF wheel it is hollow there for the electrics and buttons to fit (plus the DSG paddles if fitted). On the normal GTI wheel the clips just clip into solid rubber. So you need one type of wheel or the other, they are not interchangeable. You can modify an MF wheel to fit the non MF side clips if you want but it's not a perfect job.
