Engine/gearbox Cleaning?
« on: 27 January 2009, 13:44 »
Hey guys,

A couple of weeks ago I had a coolant pipe split and it leaked rusty coolant water everywhere over my previously very clean gearbox

What should I use to clean it? Guessing that if I just put a couple of sandwitch bags over the electrical stuff nearby and sprayed some (heres where im stuck) cleaning stuff on it, it would come off pretty easily?

Cheers!

Hi,
I would start by using tinfoil instead of plastic bags, its a lot easier and keeps water off better I think.
Then I would use a good engine degreaser/cleaner like Megs engine degreaser. Gunk is good also.

Then using a hose pipe rinse off and then dress engine with rubber treatment and engine detailer.

Cheers

tinfoil is good... but watch it round your alternator!

Just bag it up and use an elastic band.

Or man up and spray the lot while the engine is running. clean dizzy out and away you go  ghetto

might sound funny to some people (mainly to those that dont clean engin bays etc) is chose a degreaser/cleaner thats good but also SMELLS nice!!!, i fing gunk is very good at cleaning but stinks the car out for a couple of days after cleaning!! i like autoglym engine cleaner ..........id go to halfords/etc and just open the bottle if u can and have a quick sniff and go from there

Then get arrested for being a druggie.

I'd use bags not tinfoil if I were you.
