What have you done to upgrade the Audio in your GTi?
« on: 23 January 2009, 00:59 »
I have the rcd500 with the 10 speaker package and it's a real disappointment :(

I've been searching around here and other forums, but it'd be great if you could put down what you'd done to improve the dismal std Gti audio to give me some ideas and inspiration to get off my arse and get it done! :)

Cheers.

Kenwood DNX 7200 double din head unit - Hard drive SAT NAV, IPOD Video cable. Very good as it is a 6.95" touchscreen unit and will play DVD's on the move as well as download via an SD card onto the Built in hard drive. The IPOD compatibility is top notch as you can see and do everything you can with the IPOD from the touch screen. It also has a park reverse camera built in and Bluetooth for handsfree calling without the hassle.

All the speakers in the car are Hertz "Hi-energy" range speakers.

3 way components up front, 2 way coax's in the rear and a 10" sub in the boot. The boot has a custom arch install which I built and is removeable, but still looks very much OEM. The amp is an Audison 4 way, which powers the sub and the front speakers. All the door cards and the boot were lined with dynamat sound deadening material to purify the sound and keep it inside the car as it should be.

The difference is like massively better than stock and I couldn't go back to stock even if you paid me

Below is a link to the build thread of the boot install write up. Posts 4 and 8 to 12

Agreed with rainbows. They do an IQline that has speakers designed for various cars, one of them the mk5 golf. They're a straight swap for the ones you've got and much better.

Downside is £££.
