Cant turn your lights off? are imports setup differently? Or was yours a swedish volvo-esque VW ?

Its legal to have no spare wheel (or even the tyre weld stuff) but if you do have a spare wheel it has to be legal tread wise...

So you could get busted for having a dodgy spare wheel but they cant touch you if you dont have a spare wheel at all  :laugh:

Nah my lights are ok....

So flyingzard where did you get your space saver - was it from an authorised dealer? I asked one today, but they have still to get back to me. Just wondering what ballpark price was for one new, as opposed to the £50ish off ebay.

Does anyone know if a spacesaver for a normal golf would be ok, I assume it maybe needs to be just for a GTI cause of the disc brakes etc.

MP saved me cash certainly, just wished the salesman had told me about the non-spare thing. Suppose its not in his interest, but would of been nice to know before i got stranded in Glencoe on Saturday night...

I have not managed to source one off e-bay yet so i am sure we will be bidding against each other soon!

i spoke to my local dealer and asked for a quote for a 17 inch spare and he checked saying that VW do not make one.....

I am pretty sure i got some advice in the forum stating that you actually need an 18 inch spare which seemed odd to me

18inch for a 17inch? eh? that seems odd. Are you looking for a spare wheel or a spacesaver?

I have asked my local dealer about - no news yet. Will post when i hear something. Looks like it will need to be a spacesaver, unless you want to do what other helpful soles have pointed to above in this thread with the foam etc.

I'd ideally want a steel wheel, but again dont know what size would be needed etc.

Are we seriously saying here that a VW dealer has been unable to advise what the spare wheel should be in the back of your car?

Whilst I am sure its not a common request, wtf cant they easily go and find out for you...I mean, they probably have about 2 dozen similar cars within about 20 yards of their office.  Jeez this bad mood is really not shifting...probably cos blackcircles cant source until Friday :(

Well mate i have asked Arnold bloody clark and also verve. No replies so far. I assume they wont make much cash out of it so its probably at the bottom of the list. If i dont get a reply soon i will just pop round and try and nail one of them down, and open the boot myself and have a look. They are a bunch of fa**ies after all...

I have used eytres in the past - seemed very good to me, and might beat the black circle  crew, might be worth a bash.

Ahhh.. I see you are familiar with Mr Clark,....yes you have his middle name quite correct....they are a bunch of useless tossers.....I have a space saver, its probably a 17 inch one, I will be in the back of the car later and let you know the dimensions etc.
