Air Intake Mass
« on: 18 January 2009, 13:01 »
Hi,

I was doing some logging with Vag-Com of various engine measurement blocks in my BWA 2.0 TFSI and noticed the reading I am getting for my Air Intake Mass (amount of air being measured by the MAF sensor) is peaking at about 164 g/s.

Does anybody know if this is normal for stock 2.0 TFSI's or do I have a problem?  A quote from the Revo SPS guide says the following:

MAF Output : Vag Com block 002, Column 4 or block 003, Column 2
Looking at the above data blocks values @full load should be in the region of:
1.8T K04 car 190-205 g/s
1.8T K03 car 150-170 g/s
2.0T FSI car (smaller turbo) 190-205 g/s
2.0T FSI car (larger turbo) 240-250 g/s
Bear in mind environmental conditions and modifications will have an effect on MAF
values. Hot weather will see lower values.
Either a faulty MAF giving a missleading signal or an inefficient intake tract will cause
the engine to pull back the boost and fueling values. If values showing a 10% or
greater loss in air flow are seen it would suggest a MAF problem.

However I do not know if values 190-205 g/s should be seen on stock cars or remapped cars?

Here are my logs:

Did you check the usual like air filter condition and cleaning the MAF?

Not checked the air filter as I could not get the engine cover off - it just would not budge and I was scared I was going to snap it by pulling too hard

The MAF is clean and looks fine and there are no fault codes showing against it.

I just want to know if stock figures of around 164g/s at load are normal?

lol, the engine cover can be a b!tch to remove the first time.

I have never actually logged that block so can't tell you if your value is ok.

was that log done on a full throttle pull through say 3rd or 4th? the car's not making a lot of load so may be pulling back for some reason?! or if i'ts been done without loading up the car and just pulling through 2nd that's what i'd expect to see

Thanks, thats actually the link to the guide I followed.  I managed to remove the air intake head, unclip the MAF and unclip the turbo inlet.  Then when it came to pulling the cover off I got scared as it just did not seem to want to come off lol.

Hi Carl,

The logs were taken on a 3rd gear pull at WOT from about 1800-6700 revs.  In the logs I posted the logging started a bit early so I have edited them now and they only include the 3rd gear pulls.

What sort of load should I be seeing?  During the 3rd gear pull the load seems to be sitting at 135-140%.

it looks like it may be in a low boost setting hence why it's not making load.

what settings are in the car? i'd check with your select plus rather than just what you think should be in there :)

The car is completely stock :P

The reason for me doing the logging was to check if everything is healthy as I plan on giving you guys a call soon :)

Random suggestion: boost leak? Less boost getting through so less air intake?
Stab in the dark from me to be honest.
Not low enough mk5
Not on the road enough mk3
