Tyres - a FEW Viewpoints required
« on: 17 January 2009, 21:12 »
Right then folks, I know the tyre / make size and discussion has been covered MANY a time but.............

I am shocked  at the price difference ( upto £12 a tyre ) between the sizes I am considering .

Currently running on 195/50/15s ( cheaper )- but was considering 185/55/15s due to some scrubbage issues.

So

1, what was the original tyre size for 15s on a  mk2 ?

2, what do you run and why, size wise and are you lowered.

3, Toyo t1-rs or Goodyear Eagle F1s or Yoki Parada 2s????

And waits

195/50 R15 Toyo T1-Rs - grippy even in the rain.  I've got mine to roll off the rubber on the tread blocks, but only on track.  £35 + VAT fitted from Venture Tyres in Bristol.

You cannot go wrong IMO.

atm, got Toyo Proxes CF1's on the front an still got the Michellin E3A's on the rears, with the crappy standard 14" steelies (as ya know  )

185/60/14, which is also why I got the CF1's and not the T1-R's, they don't make em in 14" format  I will be getting Michellin E3A's when new rubber is needed again if I'm still on 14's, if I'm on 15's+ then I will try out the T1-R's.

imo the Michellin E3A's are better than the CF1's, although the CF1's are grippy enough in the wet and dry for everyday driving and for the 'OH SH!T I'M GONNA BE LATE FOR WORK' days.

chuff ive got the rainsports atm and they arent as good as toyo t1r's (except in heavy rain, when they are the best by miles), but if you can find some of the old goodyear eagle f1's go for them as they are slightly better than toyos and wear a lot better

Uniroyal Rainsport 2s

I've been running them on mine for the past 2 years now, never been happier with a set of tyres. I've never had any other good tyres, so my opinion is biased, DH's price above looks not bad though.

What's also worth a mention is that although they have thick sidewalls, the ride comfort isn't compromised at all, combined with my new 15" alloys they are much more comfortable than the old 14" p slots.

My mate swears by them and has run them for years, but does think the F1's' are a step up from the Rainsports, he doesn't get them just because of the price difference.

I got mine at £23 a corner, fitted, balanced and tracked  Got to love having friends in the motor trade!
