Failed Mot , What now . Help needed please

I would try and help (with my limited knowledge), but it's 3 hours away

get yourself down to themotorfactrs, get a roll of brake line and a pipe flaring tool and ALOT of ends and have a go at making some brake pipes. It's alot easier than you think and then get it checked out by the garage.

Bushes, can be done fairly easily  (well easier than on an E30) so you shouldn't be too worried.

Get yourself to a scrapper and grab some Mk3(or 4 I dunno which one) rear calipers and be done with half a handbrake (something i need to do!!!)

 Cheers dudes , Do really want to keep this car as I have wanted a Gti since i was 21 now 32 . So gutted i may have to let it go 

The guy who sold it did say it needed a bit of work for MOT think he was being generous , Only gave £550 for the motor , Like I say the shell is decent enough for a 17 year old motor , Interior is cool too . It has been lowered on coilovers , And the BBS wheels are in good nick ,4 nearly new tyres .    CONFUSED aint the word peeps

i think a trip to the motor factors for spares , tools and then a weekend lesson in MK" golf ownership is in order

For sure, if the body work is in good nic have it repaired/DIY, as said before get yaself down the motor factors pickup what you need, inc a haynes manual for guidance on changing the brake pipes.

rear beam doesnt need doing just yet as its an advisory and once you have done the brakes they should be ok for a good few years and rest is nothing major
or you could get something newer that could fail a lot worse when mot is due

Aye, ^ that is partially why I've still got the err... lovely daily...

You could sell the MK2, buy another car and have it fail it's next MOT on more stuff. The MK2 is easy to work on in comparison to other cars. Probably one of the best cars to learn a bit DIY mechanics.

You want encouragement - read through the dub projects section, you will really see what we overcome with the love for MK2's!

Nothing in that list sounded too difficult, and don't be too put off, most jobs sound difficult to do - but until you've tried it, how will you ever know? I changed a head gasket a few years back with absolutely zero head experience. I just read the Haynes, took some advice on-line and got my head down.

 OK people gonna work out prices for parts and see how much that will cost then take it from there , First on list a Haynes manual  Be sure ill be sking you lots a whole lot of questions , Thanks Alot
