Failed Mot , What now . Help needed please
« on: 16 January 2009, 20:15 »
Ok people bought this 8V Golf 2 weeks ago of here on the surface looks a real nice car , interior ,could do with a drivers seat repair .

It has 140k on the clock and runs really nice , It has been stood for 18 months to 2 years .

Took it for a mot today and it failed ,No surprise but think some things could be MAJOR

1 Both rear brake hose ferrule excessively corroded .

2 Rear Brake pipes excessively corroded .

3 Offside rear braking system leaking .

4 Nearside front brake hose has insufficent room to move , resulting in fouling on any part

whats major about any of that ?????

in all seriousness, that nothing compared to some failure sheets that have come up for Mk2s on here of late. You have no structural issues there . Now they ARE  major  :lipsrsealed:

AND

5  Offside rear mechanical brake component has restricted free movement

6  Front brake discs excessivly pitted

7  Both rear Macpherson struts have excessive movement at the upper attachment

 8  Nearside wheel bearing

Advisory   : Rear axle beam close tobushes heavily corroded

Is it worth doing the work and getting it back on the road ,  Bearing in mind I have NO mechanical know how  :undecided:

Mostly a overhaul of the brake system, would be wise to do it anyway after its been standing so long. guessing at around £150ish in parts.

Had a similar prob with mine at last mot, so I brought the parts and got a local 'mobile mechanic' to do the job for me - he actually did more than req'd and ran complete new brake lines through as well - took him a couple of hours and didn't cost a fortune either
