i drive 8 miles to work on a mixture of 30mph and bypass (60!?) mph and i never see less than 28 29 on the way to work, however on the way home i often see 32 33? same roads, traffic similar. weird!
My average on the obc is 29.8 and lead foot gets his way 9/10!!

Is it uphill going to work?!

Na not at all, its all very flat!! Id understand if it was uphill on the way and down on the back!!

Is the engine already warm when you set off for home??

I would understand if it was the otherway around. I often get 27-30mpg on the way to work, but only 22mpg on the way home :lipsrsealed:

But then I do like to get home a little quicker than i like to get to work

I drive both 170GT and Ed 30.
Both are used on similar types of journey and if anything the diesel is driven a little harder..............
170 averages 42mpg, Ed 30 averages 31 mpg.

I think I own the best MPG for the gti!

I did 582 miles to a tank (sitting at 56mph behind various different lorries after I saw on Mythbusters about a 60% increase in MPG if you slipstream a lorry)

I'm on 23p a mile from work so by getting almost 600 miles from a tank instead of 300 it doubles my income!

You must have a lot of patience

How far behind the lorries do you travel  -  I'd be afraid of all the grit they chuck off their rear tyres chipping my front end
