« on: 16 January 2009, 13:24 »
Hi all, what sort of MPG are you averaging in a mk5 GTI or a GTI ED30.
Doin 30 miles to work and 30 miles back on average monday to friday
Tryin to convince the wife that a GT TDI Sport(170) ain't much better MPG wise and the fact that we would have a golf each
Cheers

When i work away from home i do a 30 mile (each way) journey to work.  Mainly M42/M40 and M6.
Normal driving without jams i would expect 35-38mpg.  I have managed over 40mpg on occasions.

Wouldn't expect to get that if it was town/city driving though.

I traded a 130 Gt Tdi for the Gti and i would never get below 40mpg.  If careful top 50's mpg and more.

hope that helps

Id say a combined average of town and motorway dirving of about 30 is fair. Thats just normal driving, give it the beans now and again and id say 28.

Mine has dropped quite a bit since the remap :( I just cant help myself.

My (V-power) mpg makes me cry. So much so I don't look at it any more.

Think I was averaging somewhere between 16 and 19mpg last time I looked!

This is because I have a 4 mile journey to work which starts off at a crawl for a miles or so, followed by a short 1 junction blast down a free-running 4 lane section of the M60 (where I can't help putting my foot down on) and then another 500 yard crawl which takes 5 mins due to some road works.

Even when the route is clear I burn plenty of fuel and end up having too much fun as it's a nice sequence of interesting roundabouts along a dual carriage way.

My last car a BMW 530i Sport did better mpg, but then my journey was longer and less congested.

I did see 36mpg on a 120 mile m-way run down to my bro's averaging a little over the national speed limit - anything closer to 80/90 brings it down to 30ish.

TBH I never worry too much these days about mpg, otherwise I may as well buy a boring diesel - atleast my mpg is better than my bro's Focus ST which is damn scary.

Hi,

I average 30ish (over 3000 miles) and get approx 330-360 miles per tank (though i only let it run to just before the red), you can argue that Diesel is at least 15% more expensive than petrol, i read that you need to do 20,000 miles a year to make a diesel cost effective gien the increased price of purchase and the fuel.

I have a crap journey to and from work yet still get around 32MPG.  Doing a steady 90 on the motorway I get around 37, when I'm having fun 25ish.

I see on average 32mpg on a 14 mile run to work which is a mix of town and A Roads,
Interestingly enough a lady that I work with has Leon FR 170 Diesel and lives nearby, she gets 7-8mpg more than I do.

Best I have seen is 39mpg on a 300 mile trip and I wasnt driving liike miss Daisy.
