Well it finally turned up - but I'm very surprised by the fascia adapter I got from my VW stealer. It was £18 and is a really solid looking piece of kit. It's a whole cage that the stereo slots into, supporting it all around and at the back.

It looks like this one I just found on Ebay:

Much better than the others I've seen. :)

But won't be any good if I decide to go down the 2 single din head units route (stereo and pc screen). :(

Just hope there is plenty of space for all the wiring behind. :undecided:

Looks very well made indeed - do you have the VW part number by any chance?

I will get it for you tonight.

I had a closer look at it this morning, and the tray has a nice dimmpled rubberised grip effect - I now have to work out what wiring adapter I need to allow all the functionality before I can get it fitted and then I will feel back how I get on! :)

Thanks, makes me wish I hadn't sold my old Becker now - but I couldn't find a decent adapter at the time. Ho-hum!

I'm putting in a similar Alpine (9812RR), but mine is black - now THAT is a perfect colour match!

Only joshing mate - looks good , did you buy a canbus adapter thingy to connect it up?

Did you fit a sub and amp or uprate any of the other speakers?

Cheers.

I had it in my old MKIV Anniversary, so no fancy canbus thingy required - just stuck it in. I couldn't see how I could get it to look like an OEM fit in the MKV, so I sold it - D'oh!!

It had seperate wiring and controls for a sub, the stardard speakers were pretty good actually, so I ran a custom enclosure in the first aid cubby and a small amp. No window popping power, just sounded nice.

Thanks for the part number BTW, much appreciated.

Here's what I had/will be getting again - OEM or what!

EDIT: I've just realised you meant to quote AlanD??

I got two 8inch "Punch" subs and a Crossover ? (cant really remember now lol) amp aswell. Alpine HU. Didn't bother upgrading the speakers and tbh they do the job fine, will only upgrade them if they go pop. The amp came with a sub adjustment knob which I have placed just under the steering wheel so I can easily adjust the bass by turning the knob rather than going into the settings on the HU which is a pain :). Lots of bass now :D and its all very nice and simple. I tend to have the turned down to about 70% as any higher and windows and bits of the car start shaking lol. When I good song comes on and I do crank it up it sounds awesome :D :D

That was taken just after it all went in, looks much tidier now wirh cables ties etc (dont really care to much how it looks, as long as it sounds good)
