Mk 4 Golf GTI Wingmirrors
« on: 14 January 2009, 11:28 »
Hi, im currently considering buyin my frist car which will be (hopefully) a 1.8t MK4 2001 plate. Thing is there are a few niggles i will have to put right if i do, and i was wondering if any of you could advise me.........

I need to find a replacement electric wing mirror and there is a problem with the drivers seat attachment to the base of the car (basically tied down to get it through its MOT). The cars colour is pearlescent green. Apart from that it is a beautiful car with some wear to the drivers recaro seat which i am hoping to get repaired for £80 approx..

Where would i be best to find a replacement wing mirror? have looked but am struggling online and what should i expect to pay?

Any advice would be appreciated
Cheers

Look for a Mk4 being broken or try scrapyards, or if want new try VW themselves or a parts desk like Euro Car Parts or GSF.

PS... Have you checked your insurance isn't too high - it would have been £££££ for me to insure one as my first car.

It could be pretty high on insurance. Im 23 next month and i passed 7 months ago. Im driving a 1.8t on a 2000 w plate and the cheapest price i got was £1900 on confused.com. But if you love the car youll find a way of paying for it. Another option is to start off with a MK2 and (try to) wait untill you have a years no claims untill you go for the 1.8t. (I couldnt wait!) Also on a confidence level mate, if your only just out of a 1.2 litre learner car and and you jump in the 1.8t you may find it a little scary.

I went from the learner car to 1.8 non gti mk2 and the difference in that was hard to adjust to and then to the 1.8t just 4 days ago, im a confident driver although still new but its still pretty hard to adjust to the power. Im not trying to put a downer on your choice so please dont take it that way, but theres a few things to consider being that its your first car.

If you do get it though, like conker said, scrapyards or cars being broken is the best bet for the mirror
