GTI Buying Advice
« on: 13 January 2009, 21:22 »
Hi,

I am after some advice on buying a 2005 Golf GTI. Having searched for a good six months for the right deal on a Golf GT 170ps, I today stumbled on what I believe to be a reasonably priced GTI.

Having put down a small deposit this evening I'll be test driving it tomorrow and im after some advice on what I should look (or listen) out for in terms of the mechanical side of things and furthermore advice on the final negotiation.

Incidently (and fwiw) Im p/exing my existing car and Im satisfied on the price they have offered for it.

As said Im not overly familiar with the ins and outs of motors so if we can keep things in Laymans Terms that would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I had a similar decision to make and thought it would ultimately be a heart vs head decision. Drove both, there was no decision to make the diesel was waaay too torquey had wheel spin everywhere. Also the dash, more pointedly the centre console on the gt170 was

Gti all the way for me... Though Hurdy, I believe has had both...(I think)

Let the fun begin........Red Gti, full colour coding, DSG, Xenons, Winter pack, Lux pack, Highline, Sat Nav, Sunroof, Leather, Milltek, ABT rear valance, Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics....pescaras :-)

Hey!

Cheers for your input over there! I don't know if you noticed but "Dangerous Dave" added some really useful info too which will certainly help a motoring novice like myself. Its all about getting the price right I guess, I know its a buyers market but you still gotta close that deal and walk away happy!

Anyway thanks again.

EDIT: BTW, I was reading that the colour (laser blue) is no longer available from VW. Does this have any implications if any bodywork needs doing later on?

I can't recall ever seeing a laser blue GTI on the road (or even the other blue for that matter!), so they must be fairly few and far between!

But yes i agree I would be as happy with it in Black, even if they are a bit more....common!
