Boost loss solved.
« on: 19 June 2004, 15:59 »
You may remember my dissappointing dyno results at AmD, i was convinced i was losing boost, but having checked and double checked all connections i was stumped.
As a last resort i decided to change the turbo inlet for a samco silicon part. Fitted it myself thismorning, took about 2 and a half hours thanks to rain stopping the play.. but it's definitely a DIY job if you have ramps (remember to unclip the front valance or you'll be ripping it off)
Anyway, as I was reassembling everything.. the tiny little hose that comes out of the top of the DV literally crumbled in my hands.. this is impossible to spot visibly because it was wrapped in some sort of heat protective material. This would explain why i thought i could hear the boost being dumped during acceleration.
Managed to bodge (and i do mean bodge ) together a temporary replacement and took it out for a spin.. et voila.. power is back.. and so is the lovely torque steer when i floor it  ;D
Spotted a loose manifold bolt while i was under the car so nibbed that up too. Hands are cut to shreds but i don't care  :D
Can't wait to see what jabba get out of it on Monday !

just a quick one, and i know you've prob posted it but how much torque are you pushing out??? ;D
and is that with the 4bar revo? cos I'm thinking of upgrading cos I only got 3bar, what ar the gains????
Car is 02 plate dbw.
If A equals success, then the formula is: A = X + Y + Z, X is work. Y is play. Z is keep your mouth shut.

nah mate its 3bar.. revo dont do a 4bar code for my engine, although ill probably get jabba to stick a 4bar FPR in tomorrow and see what they can do with it.
With the old turbo i was making 245lbft torque at about 3500 rpm... probably about the same now.. but the new turbo holds it higher up the revs.. which in turn nudges the bhp up a bit. Don't worry you can guarantee ill be posting dyno results tomorrow  :P

You'll get a noticeable gain from the 4bar revo.. never seen a car with 4bar without a full exhaust though so i wouldn't like to guess any figures. You'll have a lot of fun though if you buy the SPS3 controller to go with it.. adjust the boost/timing for decent mileage at normal driving.. then whack them up when you feel like being daft  ;D

Best things come to those who wait (but i'm sick of waiting)
