ANOTHER LIGHTING PROBLEM!?!?!?!
« on: 11 January 2009, 21:21 »
Ok guys, you"ve always been very helpful in the past let"s try this challenge!! As it"s not possible to get LED style headlamps for the golf mk4 i"ve managed to blag from a very nice rep which visits me at work a pair of LED (501 style) sidelight bulbs for my golf, today having a spare half hour i thought "i know i"ll fit those bulbs" silly me!!!! What an absoulote arse they are to get to never mind to try and fit!! An hour later and i gave up,i managed to remove all relevent covers and multiplugs,i could see the bulbs but couldn"t NO way get them out, there are more bloody wires in a vw headlamp than the telelphone exchange!! The ever helpful haynes book makes it sould so easy but they seemed to favour removing the bumper and light unit, surely this would be overkill to replace a simple bulb!! Does anybody know an easy way or have had the pleasure in tackling the same chore?!?

lol the joys of MKIV ownership - changing the bulbs!!

the sidelights IIRC twist out rather than pull out - can't remember 100%

i changed mine whilst i had the bumper off for other work; i've changed the normal headlight bulbs with lots of swearing but the easiest and most painless way is to remove the bumper - its a 10 minute job at the most :afro:

They are twist out IIRC and took me about 10 minutes in total from opening the front door!

UPDATE!!!!  At long last i"ve managed to fit some new l.e.d style front side light bulbs (Which look GREAT,thanks to my f.o.c set from a friendly rep who works for a well-known bulb manufactuer) I" ve got a fair bit of mechanical knowledge but found this exercise a fiddly one but worth the results! My next task is to find some really nice blue/white led effect headlight bulbs (477 fitment) Any suggestions from the people who know?!?!?!

People reccomend Philips Xtreme.

I however own a set of OSRAM Nightbreakers and swear by them. White light mostly, and SUCH great lighting. They do blue look and semi blue look in other bulbs too.
