MkV GTI DSG Gearbox problems
« on: 11 January 2009, 14:33 »
Has anybody had the problem I am currently trying to get rid of. The gearbox works fine when cold and is a joy to use. But when the engine and gearbox are really hot its a different beast. It spits you off the mark however gentle you are with the right foot. Which is no big deal when going forward but very interesting when backing into tight spaces. Its almost impossible to creep the car line astern when in slow moving traffic. At 1200 rpm it goes into the kangaroo hop which is pretty unpleasant for other people in the car. When coming to a stop the gear box occaisionally hangs onto the gear and finally lets go with one hell of a lurch when you been stationary for a few seconds. Its disconcerting to find your self a foot closer to the chuff of the guy in front. The clutches feel really notchy and hard, all in all a really crap box. Its been in to the dealers twice and each time it's no code found. I am rapidly coming to the conclusion it will have to go as the techs do not seem able to find the fault. If any of you guys out there are having or have had this problem do tell

sounds a bit bad that.  there is a known quirk whereby if you stop and put it in reverse too quickly it will lurch.
but yours sounds like a fault to me.

have the so called tech guys been out in it, just because no code is thrown up doesn't mean there is not a problem. ask to take a car for a test drive that has dsg and get them to compare it with yours. they wont be able to fob you off with the no code b*****x. good luck

Mechatronic valve is the problem, dealer visit and tis a known warranty fix.Is a very expensive part and might take a while to get one in the country and others have posted b4.

This Will fix your problem.

Funny you should mention manual R32's as I've seen a few of those with knackered clutches! :lipsrsealed:

I had a funny one the other morning - it was extremely cold (I reckon the coldest it's ever been for a long time) and car hadn't been used for about a week, gets in and starts up, about a second after engine started the whole bloody car jumps forward about 2 inch! Yes it was in park too... :undecided:

The clutch went in my manual R32 about 3 months ago. It was totally worn. Weak clutch a known weak point in the MKV. Lucky enough I am still under warranty.

How much is a new manual clutch on the r32?  The mechatronics failure runs into £1500-£2000

Does anyone know what causes the Mechatronic valve to fail? Is there any maintenance work which can help protect it or does it fail due to misuse? I'm out of warranty so very keen to look after my DSG .....
