G60 Pistons?
« on: 10 January 2009, 22:06 »
Hi,

I am looking the alternatives of G60 piston. I did not find G60 pistons in my country.

I guess Golf MK2 1.8 8v, MK3 1.8 8v, G60 8v piston sizes are same. 81 x 86.4.

Is there a different on they? Can i use 8V pistons on my G60 engine?
Anybody have any idea? or any other alternatives?

Your advices are very important for me.

Thanks...

I would not use standard pistons on a blown engine as the combustion temperatures are higher, and I doubt standard pistons would cope. You need to find G60 replacements or aftermarket items. Try TSR.

Try Kolbenschmidt.. or find someone who is supplied by them for parts. they are the OE supplier to Volkswagen so would be your best port of call for standard pistons, though they do list for oversized applications..

Yeah standard 8v pistons won't work due to compression issues, amongst others. There are loads of places that supply replacement parts for G60 motors... depends on where you're based though who you choose to go with.

You don't own a Mk2, you support it.

Supplier of Volkswagen offers very expensive prices. I guess it will be 1000$+.
Kolbenschmidt etc. made in Turkey. But they are not in domestic market.

I bought used pistons and rods on ebay.de. They came on Tuesday, but the pistons have rounded corners which are really bad in shape, also one of the piston has a small crack on on the top. I cant use...

There is the end : i can't use 8v pistons. :(

Thanks to all...

I have seen on ebay a G60 engine repair kit with pistons, rings, shells etc going for about 700 quid. I'll have a quick shuftie and see if I can find it.

Got it, but more expensive than I thought.  :undecided:

8v pistons won't fit anyway g60's ahve 136mm con rods  not 144mm like the rest of the 8 valves also the grudion pin is bigger, 22mm iirc

g60 pistons pop up on ebay quite oftem but would be tempted to get some forged JE or wossner items
all the VW's have gone bar 1.
