Price of AGU remap?
« on: 09 January 2009, 13:49 »
Is the price on the front page of Rtec's website the right one for an AGU engine?

It states:
REMAPS:
Golf Mk4 pre year 2000 1.8T non dbw & 1.9TDI   £200

With a £20 discount to golfgti members (that's me )

So, £180?  When's that valid to?  I might be very interested on pay day if it passes its MOT first time.

WHAAATT!  Where have I missed that?  Defo on AGU's??

The car has done 170k (and still on the standard turbo I beleive), what side affects is a remap likely to have?

To be honest that turbo will be nearing the end of it's life whether it's remapped or not.. you should budget for a new one (upgrade to a k03s for around 300-400 notes)

That's pretty much what I thought, and already researched the K03s

Is it an issue to re-map first, turbo later?

What happens when the turbo gives up?  Just lose a lot of power?

If I remap now, will that be specific to the K03 fitted, or is it specific to the ECU so will work with the K03s too?  There's no point paying out for a remap if I have to then remap again with a new turbo on.

Oh and where is the DIY guide on replacing the turbo

If you are gonna upgrade to K03s then it would better to remap afterwards to make the most of it!

I'm no expert but I think its quite a big job since the turbo is located at the back.

I think...

4 - 5 hours for a mechanic so a day or 2 for a novice i reckon.. there may be a guide on vwvortex somewhere

The k03 map will certainly work on a k03s (i ran mine like that for years.. albeit with a few tweaks) but ideally you want a custom map to make the best of the improved turbo.. which Nick will be able to do because that's what he's just done on Ivor's car. Give him a call though to see what he suggests. (ps. a custom map will probably be a bit more expensive than a standard AGU one)

Can't be any harder than a gearbox swap on a MK3 surely..  That was my last major job.  I think I might just go for it, and wait for the turbo to go.  I don't plan going any more than a map though, if I want more bhp, I'll jump in the Meg and remap that!

Fingers crossed I don't need to spend extra on the MOT..

wouldn't be harder than that so go for it, get all new gaskets and banjo bolts from vw (cheap) and i think some workshops cut the old oil lines off for the sake of ease as it saves time and new ones aren't expensive

edit: obviously drain the oil first
