Dump valve for Mk1 1 help!!
« on: 16 June 2004, 22:14 »
Hi,
I have a 1981 1.6 gti, and am thinking of adding a dump valve onto it. Was wondering if it is possible, and what's the best way to do it. I'm not a great mechanic, so will i need to take it into the garage?

Any help will be much appreciated

Cheers

Row  :)

Welcome to the site, if your car is currently unmoddified then i'm sorry to say that a dumpvalve is impossibe.  You'd need a turbo charger to start with.  ;)

to be honest Row, I think you're mad for even thinking about it :-\

a lot fo turbo cars don't really need dump valves, they are very 'show off boy racer style' and not really cool for a vw.....

how ever each to their own eh!

Sound illusion's right though, short of getting a turbo conversion to your mk1 you're a bit stuffed.

There was a nasty cheap device on ebay that you could attach to your exhaust to make it sound like a dump valve but it looked like a really bad chav extra

As said above.. you can't have a dump valve if you have no turbo boost to dump ! The tacky imitation things are for people named Kevin or Darren that drive modified Red mk4 1.3L Ford Escorts.

Chris.
