Removing Clocks

Hi, has anyone had problems removing their speedo clocks???

I get the dash stripped down, try to pull the clock out but it won't fit throught the gap and I can't reach in to disconnect the speedo.

Do you have to take the top dash off too???

Any advice will be much appreciated.

IIRC it should come stright out after you've taken out the surround bit from the clocks and disconnected it. Have you taken off the steering wheel and stalks?

You remove all the switches, then the stereo, unscrew the heater controls, then the retaining screws for the dash fascia. The surround comes out easily, then you can reach round the back to pull the vac hose and the speedo cable - theres a clip you need to pinch on either side to remove it.

The clocks are held in with a few screws, remove the two/one electrical plugs from the underside, then just rock forward and jobs a gudden.

i found the best way to reach behind the clocks was by taking off the lower part of the dash, the part that includes the fuse box cover. Should be a few screws to take that off, that then enables you to reach up and behind the clocks to take the vac hose and speedo cable off. Makes it a lot easier to put back together too.

Yeah I've taken all dash surround and screws on the clocks off and they do tilt but won't come out.

I'll have a go at your way danj3000, think it will come out once speedo cable's off it. There's just no play in it at all.

i had the exact same problem as you. There was very little play with the clocks with the speedo cable attached - also hurts your hands trying to sqeaze through! Once you take off that lower part of dash trim its so much easier, definitely try that way.

i usually give it the old reach around from the left side where the stereo was.  That way you can sit comfortably rather than on your back in the footwell!

As well as taking the dash tray off I also push some slack in the speedo cable and vacuum pipe through from the engine bay. Do it bit by bit i.e. push some through from the engine bay then pull clocks forward as far as, then push a bit more through. You can then easliy reach around back to give that pesky speedo a squeeze.
