PAS on a 1.3
« on: 04 January 2009, 21:59 »
i've tried looking for help in the search and on other forums and cant get an answer...

Does anyone know how to get the the PAS pump to fit on a small block?? I cant seem to work out how it bolts up? does anyone have a picture of the 16v pump set up, as i think it its underneath the water pump IIRC or on top, but the small blocks have an altenator there will it mount on the inlet side??

Any help appreciated

Mk3 Golf 1.4 ABD = same block.. Ibiza 1.3/1.4 mid 90s.. also same block iirc.. and both i ahve seen feature PAS!

So in theory you should be able to throw everything PAS around it pipes, rack the lot, and then use the Mk3 ABD engine brackets/pulleys/alternator setup or whatever you may need.. then hook the pump to that? I looked at it a LONG time ago, but then went off it as i needed the car everyday

just for future reference iv found that yes you can use the 16v rack and pipes with the abd brackets and altenator and bottom pulley. also a different idea was to take the electric pump of a saxo and mount that separtely all together, all the line match up and saves buying lots of new bits! You'd just have to wire it in

i'll proably split the trigger for the fuel pump relay and use it to drive a 40A relay,  that way the pas pump will only be on when engine is running,   on a carbed car id sugedst looking at a k jet fuel pump circuit

ahh ha fuel pump circuit theres an idea ! I think i'll stick with the mechanical pump, think it'll be slightly easier and i'm not as good with electrics so i doubt i'd wire it right in a weekend  :undecided:!

IIRC  the k jet fuel pump circuit  looks at the LT side of the coil for a tach signal and will only operate the pump when there is a tach signal ( ie enigne running ) in theory this should retrofit to your car and would only have to run the pas pump.

yeah thats right, trouble is they tend to be a bit pricey. also some have a rev limiter built in so watch that, last thing you want is the pas to cut out if you rev too high in a corner.  Though would be difficult to manage it in a 1.3 :P
