Just a quick one to say hi. Recently bought my Mk4 Gti Tdi off a mate.

All started off well just needing a clutch which he supplied me, got it fitted at a local garage in Burnley (lancs). All seemed ok until some slight noise after 3weeks (1500 miles for me). Turned out that they had left some of the bolts loose that hold the inner CV joint together, dropped if off at the garage where the replaced the inner joint and said sorry .. Shortly after its starts to be an issue to select 2nd gear didnt think too much of it.. 10days later and I find the same side (N/S) front wheel is on the verge of falling off as they didnt tighten the wheel bearing to the max, i managed to tighten it myself a further half turn. Dropped if off AGAIN where they then replaced the wheel bearing.. 2nd gear is now getting worse to select.  And it gets better..  Last week I had my mate from down south (where I bought the car) check the car over and he points out that when the inner joint was bashing around its put a nice crack in the gearbox which the garage forgot to mention to me..They had just covered it up with some chemical metal... This is the reason why 2nd gear is now shafted and I now need a new gearbox ..

I will be having words tomorrow, but the original job was a cash in hand, so I am now thinking that they will just say sorry pal never seen that car before..  If that happens dunno what I can do..  New box is well over a grand, dunno how much a recon would be..

Man that sucks!!!

maybe just some strong words in order then and that might be enough. . .

but then like you say they could just deny working on the car altogether!

but if there gonna get like that, doing cash jobs on the side can be reported.
