mk2 help please
« on: 04 January 2009, 12:49 »
Hello people!

Been away for a long time so Happy new year to everyone.

I dont know if this is the right section for this so apologies if its wrong.

Basicaly i have been away from mk2 golf's for a few years and have forgotten a thing or two.

I need to know something about the electrics.

I have a very poorly mk2 vr6 golf in my garden with knackered electrics. I know this is a simple plug and play affair regarding the electrics if its the right mk2 golf.

what year did the ce2 electrics come in for the mk2 golf? What reg?

Are the electrics the same on the ce2 mk2 gti's 8v, 16v and what about the drivers and ryders? The diesel?

I hope this makes sense.

Im looking for a donor car so i can transfer everything from my other golf into the one i buy.

My other golf has been stood for 4-5 years, engine still runs sweet, has g60 recaros, coilovers, g60 brakes, so just need something to put it all into.

Thanks

Solo

CE2 came in late 89, ignore the year though and check the position of the hazard switch, on top of the column = CE2.
All MK2 CE2 electrics are the same, just a case of non-GTIs have no wiring for the fuel pumps and obviously the engine managmnet loom will be different for each engine lump available in a MK2.  The lighting part is seperate from the engine part though, so you could strip a 1.3 to get 90% of the loom you need, add the wiring for the fuel pump then swap in your VR6 engine loom, job done.

The engine loom ideally needs a bit of tweaking to make it a nice fit into a MK2, as quite a few plugs on it will be different to the MK2, things like fan plugs plus it will have quite a lot of extra plugs that you dont need, for example the carbon canister.

To run a VR engine I would use the MK2 16v/8v K-Jet main pump, the digifant 8v pump might not be strong enough.  Either that or the proper VR6 fuel pump, but for that you also need the MK3 fuel tank and fuel lines, plus the fuel pump loom from a MK3 rather than MK2.

If you wants wiring diagrams I have stacks ;)
