Working in bodyshop... what?s it like?
« on: 14 June 2004, 22:29 »
Hmm, I take it a couple of you on here work in bodyshops, either as part of a larger group or self employed.

What made you deside on that chosen career and now in your position do you regret going down that avenue? Do the rewards far exceed the effort?

I am really interested in getting into this line of business. Now I am coming to the end of college but dont fancy going onto University and was thinking about an apprenticeship.

Now, I'm not sure if a move into the practical side of things would be more beneficial, so wanted really the pro's and con's of working in a body shop.

Is this a difficult area to get into?

Thoughts?! Best going to main dealers or local places etc?

Would appreciate any advice on it :)

Small garages are ok but don't offer the training. My mate works for Honda and is 31. He has always earned very good money as a 'Paint Tech' (sprayer) and is now a Bodyshop Supervisor (earns around ?40K).  Any trade is is ideal to get into, something I regret now.

All I can say is go for it.

Good luck
