Fitted my APR catback

Didn't put her foot down    I think she did ok - better than ok...  Its a residential area after all. BTW, she disappeared round that corner quite fast - I bet she heard the Miltek and couldn't stop!   Or maybe I drive my car like a granny    Sounds awesome and can't wait to get my Ed30 back on the road.  I'm really missing it at the moment.  Restricted to 3k rpm on the R32 as its being run in - a process that will take aeons being my wife's car.  Only done 119 miles in the first week    I had a Mk2 16v with an aftermarket Remus exhaust when I bought it.  It was horrible and at 4k rpm it really sounded boomy.  To be fair to Remus, the exhaust was blowing.  Anyway, that experience and listening to boy racers look like prats going up and down the streets of Birmingham made me very very cautious about ever putting any kind of aftermarket exhaust on.  Even when considering the Milltek, it was a purely functional decision to fit it on the Ed30 - to aid the engine air flow and power rather than aesthetic reasons.  Hence why I had a res Catback fitted.  However, once it was on... it didn't sound nasty and looked much much much much better than the OEM exhaust.  Those tailpipes are    After a couple of thousand miles it sounds great.  I'd never want to go back to OEM.  Milltek are the dog danglies.

This post is making me twitchy, especially the photos and the clips .  What's the difference between an apr exhaust and a milltek one?  And do they do much in the way of a bhp increase, or is it mostly throttle response?  Would there be much of a difference on insurance if i had one fitted?

I have the APR stealth catback with standard downpipe and is perfect for everyday and motorway use..
It has a little burble when idle sounds awesome when putting your foot down, plus the 3" pipe looks nice as the cut out on the GTI bumper for the exhaust is to big in my opinion so kinda fills it nicely without making it look like a pea shooter.

Have a look at some of the topics that I have started over recent months..they will give you an idea of what the APR is like. There are plenty of topics around that talk about the Milltek, so by the end you should have a good idea of what to expect!

Bhp increase depends on what you go for, i.e. just a catback system, or the downpipe and sport cat as well. Expect more bhp if you go for a full turbo-back system (which includes downpipe, sport cat and cat back). Some exhaust manufacturers quote as much as 17hp increase from a decent exhaust system combined with a remap to suit. I think it's reasonable to expect c. 8-10hp when combined with a map that takes into account of the new exhaust!

I have got the full Turbo-back APR RSC exhaust - and throttle response has been improved a lot!!!

Also bear in mind that LaserBlue has got the older APR system fitted - called the APR Stealth system. The RSC system replaced this. I have been told that there are subtle differences in the way that both sound.

Insurance - I'm with Greenlight and they charged no extra for the exhaust onto the policy. Also charged no extra for a remap and air intake!

That's great thanks for that info . Looks like I've got a lot of reading to do I've recently renewed my insurance with bell but maybe I'll give greenlight a call, as I've heard bell aren't too keen with mods.

I did a quote with Bell, and asked them to add an exhaust. And it put the premium up by around £80
