Would you risk it ?
« on: 23 December 2008, 10:50 »
As most of you know chaps I have been searching for a while for an R32, given the recent prices....this car has been on and off ebay several times......would any of you go for this "immaculate" 08?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2008-VOLKSWAGEN-GOLF-R32-BLUE_W0QQitemZ250346610117QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item250346610117&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A7%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

I mean, look at the "Buy It Now" price....read the text and let me know if you would take a chance on buying something with this history...what are the downsides? If something seems to good to be true...it generally is always too good to be true...

something about a barge pole and not touching comes to mind. you can get something similar from a dealer.

3 grand more but i'm sure they can come down in price

Woffle the one you've just highlighted is an 06 model...and the one at beadles is £3.5k dearer!

there are loads out there, I know and I would probably get my head stoved in and my collection of Gibson guitars thrown into the street behind me if I did go for it anyway

...women, cant live with them.....can't live...with them

Seriously though...if I went for this car...mad though I may be.... what paperwork etc should i be seeking to ensure is present? I clearly would get the car inspected and I would want to verify provenance, previous owner, check out the story etc etc etc...any advice fellow dubbers?

Don't know the legalities here.... but if was stolen with keys, and recovered with no damage then why was it not returned to the owner after the police had finished with their checks??

Just a thought.

Perhaps they had already paid out????

in which case the car must have been away for a while then...in a lock up/ hidden?

yep...dodgy for sure.

the old saying goes- if it seems too good to be true, it usually is. it would be the insurance companys' property, why arn't they selling it? in todays climate you could get one with a proper history for not a lot more, it would be a nightmare tryng to sell it on in the future. not worth the risk imo.

as long as it is hpi clear and mechanically sound there is no reason not to snap up what is an absolute bargain imo. Mmmmm tempting :)

tempting it is...and if the seller doesnt provide the information re the previous owner, the insurance company and all the necessary legal paper work then any one interested would just walk away.

It sounds like tracing the real story would be easy..

and you would not need to mention this to any prosepective owner in the future, would you? i mean its not been in an accident...its not damaged, it was only pinched by some grubby little baw bag in a situation similar to the Stolen Ed30 Thread....

Its up for grabs for anyone who has the cash and the bottle to go for it...i will ponder, debate and probably decide to play safe and not go for it...(for real reason, see reference to woman above)...

Got to say I agree with the above comment. Why would it be a nightmate to sell on in the futre? If its HPI clear then no one is going to know are they. If you can get all the paper together and get a straight story then I cant see the problem. If anyone has the nuts to go for this they migth be getting bargin . . .  who knows. Will need a PROPER REAL GOOD check over though.
