V-Power in France
« on: 23 December 2008, 10:50 »
Hi All,

Big problemo! I am driving from Calais to Le Mans on Sunday and have just noticed that the French don’t have any Shell petrol stations. I have only ever used V-power since my remap and now this means I am going to have to give it some horrible French drink.

Does anyone know what fuel is best to use in France?

Also if anyone has been, are there plenty of petrol stations on the A28 toll road to LeMans?

I may have to hire a tanker to follow me, Its like a religion using v-power!

Generally speaking and speaking generally....

(Premium)Unleaded (RON 98) = Sans Plomb 98 (Green)
(Super)Unleaded = Sans Plomb 95 (Green)
Diesel = Gazole (Black)

and at the same time you can get a nice pan au chocolate when you are filling up

Let the fun begin........Red Gti, full colour coding, DSG, Xenons, Winter pack, Lux pack, Highline, Sat Nav, Sunroof, Leather, Milltek, ABT rear valance, Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics....pescaras :-)

^ What they said. Just because its not "V-Power" doesnt mean its not 98/99 RON which is just as good for your car as the V-Power stuff.

Shell have done a fantastic marketing job with V-Power... "Put Ferrari fuel in you car"... It is little different to any other 99 RON fuel... there may be some different additives etc. but to all intents and purposes it is no different.

I doubt you'll notice any difference if you have to slum it and put 98 in... and to be honest unless you know the stuff it was mapped on was fairly new there's a fair chance that the V-Power you used had gone off  a bit and wasn't the full 99RON stuff anyway...

Even if you had to put 95 in, you may notice the performance is a little worse but it shouldn't do any damage unless you start nailing it everywhere...

Edited to add:

Be aware that Shell V-Power is sold in other markets and often is not the 99 RON stuff we get here... in some markets the 95 RON stuff is sold as V-Power...

V power is different....and it is noticable via logging correction factors, you'll find you can run a lot more timing in a car using V-power than you can with a car running any other kind of super unleaded!

but for a trip abroad i wouldn't worry that much just keep to high octane fuels and you'll be fine!

Yup, when I drove around Europe in 2006/7, France had 98 RON V-Power.

I got my garmin nuvi to show me shell stations on my route so i knew how long to go for each fill up! Switzerland was the most expensive but no idea now with the euro being buggared!
