Anyone who has a Forge DV please . .

Well, its a little complicated. They are planning on being closed over xmas but have had lots of phone calls from people wanting to do work so they might be open. Its provisionly booked in for this Saturday and he is going to phone me later to tell me if they are open or not,if not it will have to be when they open again after xmas.

being a novice, what does a dump valve actually do other than make a noise? I've been told their not good for the engines at times.?

Some people say they are no good, but I've always wondered why Forge would make them if they damaged the engine  .

In the case of this topic, we are referring to the DV as simply replacing the standard valve, with a similar, stronger and more durable item from Forge.

Both do the same job, but whereas the standard valve has a plastic diaphram - that is prone to splitting under the increased temperature/load from remapped cars, the Forge item is metal, and therefore is much stronger and has been found to cope very well when a car is remapped!

Forge also do a DV valve that is 'atmospheric', which vents the excess air into the atmosphere, i.e. the type of valve that will produce more of a noise of a typical dump valve found on Scooby's, Skylines etc etc! There are arguments in existence that these valves are not as good for the TFSI engine as the re-circulating valve in question in this topic - i.e. the a valve that re-circulates the air and does not produce that 'blow-off' pttshhhhhhhh sound!

ok ta. helped a bit thanks! my engines just standard and aint sure if I change anything it would void warranty!.
Would like a whoosh from replacing my standard DV, but sounds like I would need a recirculating one then that doesn't give off much of a whoosh. (if thats correct?) Again bit of a novice with turbo's!

recirculating means exactly that it re-circulates the air i.e. exactly what the OEM one does, there are various different opinions on the atmospheric/blow off/ dump valves i for one one would just opt for the standard replacement DV valve from Forge which recirculates. are you planning to have the car remapped?

No plans yet for remap (Got made redundant xmas eve! ).
Was planing new exhaust/r32 style and remap when warranty runs out so no complications from stealers,- just under 2 years left.
But as I've gathered the standard Dv only needs replacing when this remap is done!?

If you want the Whoosh noise then you don't need to replace the DV.  Forge make a product which is simply a spacer that fits between the OEM DV and the turbo housing and when the the OEM DV operates it vents the pressure to atmosphere as opposed to recirculating it.
