Stutter?!?
« on: 18 December 2008, 21:09 »
Not sure what is wrong with my car so thought I would ask if anyone had had a similar problem.

When ever I accelerate in my car there are what I can only describe as a stutter from the engine as though the engine just stops for a split second and the whole car shudders.
It was only serviced about 3 weeks ago and it was a major service where all plugs and filters etc were changed so I am a little annoyed that this has started happening.
I went to the dealer, who checked for any fault codes and said that there were none so there was nothing they could do.
A friend suggested that it may be something to do with the coil pack?

Any ideas?

Is it under warranty?

Could be a coil pack. But on a mk4 that throws up a fault code and a dash light. Not sure on mk5.

Yeah it's still under warranty, just! I do alot of miles and I'm on 57k now so nearly out of warranty period! But don't want to have to pay to get it fixed when the warranty runs out so trying to get it sorted asap!
Like I said, dealer told me there were no fault codes and don't see why a fault code wouldn't show up if it was the coilpack, but can't think of anything else obvious that it would be?!?

Maybe something obvious like leads not fitted right or plugs not fully seated. Get them to ensure that these are checked and tightened first before moving on to other areas.

Could it be misfire?

I think it would be worth checking your HPFP, Cam Follower and Cam as you are on quite high mileage.

Take it to VW and say there is a fault, tell them to fix it regardless whether it throws up a code or not it's still a fault on a car with warranty!

Man up!

Just been 2 the dealer and it's booked in first week in January, bottom line is it's under warranty and I want it fixing before it turns into something bigger!

Best to get the simple stuff out of the way first. So, does the traction control light flash when this happens?

No, TC light doesn't come on, definitely something with the engine, it's as though it loses all power for a second, hopefully be getting sorted shortly though!
