broken polo needs help
« on: 13 June 2004, 10:44 »
ok I have just got the 5 speed put in last week
and it is still leakin like it was with the 4 speed

its comin from where the selecter goes into the box
so a mechanic told me it was a seal that had gone
so i trailed down to vw and got a seal.

my dad took the car in as i was at work
when i came home the car had a new seal.

but it was still leakin but even worse
theres a puddle under it right now
so i put the car on ramps to inspect this leak

and it seams to be comin from before where the seal
is.
how can it be fixed since i am always gettin f**ked about
with cars nothing seems to go right for me

also can the gearbox oil be topped up
because i dont fancy buyin another gearbox

I feel your pain mate, All this year has been unlucky for me too, one thing after another.  If ur old man has taken the car in to have the leaky seal fixed and it's still leaking, I recommend you take it straight back.  As for gearbox oil, yes you can topup the oil in the box, make sure there's always enough oil in there.  I've lost a box just sue to the lack of it.  Grab ur haynes and locate the filler for it.  Make sure you take the car back to the garage u had it fixed at and get em to fix it properly.

For the filler and drain plugs on the 1.3, look around the diff (where the driveshafts go in the gearbox),
there should be 2 plugs, upper and lower, the upper one is the filler plug.
The golf and polo 1.3 box will be the same.

It will be a 17mm hexagonal socket bolt.

Don't think that is it, should be a round metal plug with a 17mm hex sunk into it (use a wheel bolt and a spanner to remove it if you don't have the tool).
Steve.

Yeah, thats what i meant steve.
All vw/audi gearbox oil plugs are the same.
Don't know what i was thinking when i wrote that  ???
What i meant is you need a 17mm like allen key socket to undo the plug  :D
