You're absolutely right, Carl - Both are excellent and you sometimes have to look twice to tell if 3 or 5. The 3-door is more popular and is percieved as sportier and I came from a 2-door BMW and I was going to order the 3-door GTI until my teenage daughter suggested otherwise and reminded me of my need to transport she and her jailbait mates friends occasionally.

Believe me you wouldn't!!

I got my first speeding ticket ever - 93 in a 70 on sunny dry unbusy clear dual carriageway A-road, but encouraged by 3 teenage girlies in the car - Just speed and nothing dangerous or reckless - I just got unlucky but it reminded me not to be encouraged.

In the summer I drove my daughter and her best mate up to a gig in London. On the way, we encountered a very nice Mk5 R32 and for about 20 miles drove in fast company as and when conditions allowed. It was all as it should be - No racing but leaving each other space and letting each other overtake but still having some spirited driving. My daughter's friend sounded like she was wetting herself with glee! After our cars parted company with thumbs-ups, I had to make a point of lecturing her how important it was to know what you were doing and not race other cars and stay well away from being with drivers who ignored safety.

....There don't seem to be enough TSNers interested in a SW meet. I regularly go to the meets at Portchester and near Brighton. Mk5GolfGTI.co.uk have some big GTI meets with lots of guys who also frequent here.
