Dont bother greasing it. Replace it as its cheap and easy to do.

The cable will look mint but its probably full of rust :angry:

I'd be inclined to use actual grease, WD40 can be a bit thin, CV/Moly/General Purpose should do the trick.

trouble is its getting the grease in there, not like you can split the cable in half and grease it up!

I have a plan, convince the missus that cv grease is a new rejuvenating creme and fill the bath with it, then drag the cable through it repeatedly until its full of it?

... Or use something like this, or lithium bearing spray.

I think the WD40 is a good idea as it might just shift enough crud to stop it sticking, although do agree it may not last for ages. Deff worth a try. :smiley:
