ignition barrel wires.
« on: 12 June 2004, 08:00 »
I had a problem with my car and it turned out it was the ignition barrel was knackered. Now i dont want the hassle of having to take it out. I would rather wire up a push button start. I need to know which wires go where? I need two switches, one for ignition and a momentary switch for engine start. The switches and wiring i will use will be high amp wire, which sort of amp wire and switch should i go for? Pm me if you dont want to make this common knowledge, would not want any chancers getting this info. Please pm me asap as i need to get this sorted today. Hopefully i will do this the proper way when i have time. Change ignition barrel etc.

I have a gti, 16v gti, please email me or pm me on which wire to put on what switch i have a rough idea but need some help.

ps the quicker the better.

Thanks

its not that hard changing the ignition barrel, you just have to drill a little hole into the cast metal housing and push the spring clip in. it shows you where to drill in the haynes manual ;)

and dont buy a german and swedish barrell, cos the bit which turns the ignition switch isnt long enough and it rounds off cos its sh!tty cheap soft metal >:(

the +15 wire is thin and black. a switch needs to power that one (it splits to 2 wires as soon as it leaves the plug) the engage the ignition.

I don't know which other wire is the one that turns the engine over without looking the in the haynes.
