Car OverHeating only in a city.
« on: 29 March 2004, 16:45 »
Hello again...
I have a quick question regarding the water system.

If i am driving through sheffield(city) and my car's running at normal tem(middle) and i start thrashing it a little it seems to not cool down but the fan is working! so aventually it will over heat unless i can get on a long straight.

If i drive steady through a town then car gets hot but the fan kicks in at the correct temp and cool's it down and its fine, it won't overheat.

Has any1 any idea's on this,

i've thought of 1 "don't thrash it through a city"  ;D but i'd like it resolved.

I think the water and antifrezze mixture is wrong it has more antifrezze than water could this be the culprit?  ???

Anyway any idea'a would be great cos its the only prob i have at moment!

Thanks,  ;)

Gaz

Is that when the problem started? I've had problems with new thermostats in the past.

Hi Gambit,

It sits in the middle all the time unless stuck in traffic then the needle moves on a little just before hitting the second marker the fan will kick in and cool the car down. but if thrashing it though a town then stopping etc.... the needle will just go right over to the right hand side unless i stop and turn the car off. The oil temp is between 98 - 103.

No it had a faulty system when i bought it last year in november so i replaced the thermo and it ended up being the fan so i replaced the thermo anyway as they are cheep.

Hmmmm new fan..........I'm sure it shouldn't be possible but, just a thought, it isn't operating in the wrong direction is it? Pulling the hot air off the engine and through the radiator would cause said undesireable effect :-\

Check the water pump and make sure all the spines are still on it.
