Alpine HU Fitting Question

My girlfriend has bought me this for christmas:

Just wondering if I will need any adaptors or anything when fitting it to my golf on christmas day or is it just a case of old crappy casette unit out, shiny new Alpine in?

Also, slightly concerned that the ipod connects to the rear of the unit, any obvious wiring solutions to this i havent thought about?

If it's a Mk3 Golf then it's a simple case of unplugging the old one and taking the old cage out, and putting the new cage in for the Alpine one and slotting the HU in place. Piece of cake no adaptors needed.

Feed the cable through the glove box, I've got it going through the hole the light's in but will drill a hole at the back & feed it in there eventually.

cool, and sorry i didn't mention its a MK4, does the above still apply? Car is in garage for MOT at the moment so cant check for hole to glove box hehe

The alpine cage are designed diferently to most. you can if you want do the whole remove cage from unit and insert before fitting the actual radio into it, bt if you look at the many finer tabs on the alpine cage, you can actually just connect your wiring loom(s) (be sure to switch the red and yellow around when connecting them on the alpine looms as you may find theyr not connected at all to begin with)
also sumtimes there is no use for the in line blue wire on the alpine wiring loom which could often cause other conflicts with the vehicles electronics so therefore i would normally chop it n tape it up out the way.

once all that is done, just slot the alpine in as it is even when the cage is stil on the unit as it will clik in place by itself if done properly.
