Rear bracket mount thingy broken ( pics included)
« on: 01 December 2008, 22:16 »
Hi all

I recently bought a mk4 golf gti but the cd player units are not sitting firmly in position. I took them out and have found that the plastic mount (that the little rubber bungs on the cd player units insert into) is broken. Im pretty sure this is why the units do not sit firmly in place.

The photos arent great but you can see where the bracket has snapped.

Is this fixable?

I was thinking of maybe replacing the 2 units with a cheap double din unit, but i am unsure if this bracket will still be needed to secure an aftermarket cd player unit in place.

I was thinking of buying the one below

I would be very grateful if somebody can give me a bit of advice on this. Thanks!

I'm not 100% certain (as I got shot of my mk4 over 4 years ago years ago!) but I'm pretty sure there should be a plate that sits in between the two modules and keeps them correctly spaced. It's very hard to tell from just looking at the photos, but I'd say the missing plate would be a larger contributing factor to wonky headunit/in dash changer that that bracket.

Unless you've removed that plate it looks like someone's had an aftermarket unit in there before you and not replaced it (funnily enough, exactly what I did...)
You can replace your factory stuff with single (your stealer will be able to supply you with an oem pocket that will fill the hole) or double din if you don't want to keep it, neither will need the fixing bracket in you photos.

I'd also say, if you;re going to go double din, save your pennies and get yourself a screen based headunit.
They look mustard in a mk4

Thanks for the reply! Yeah a plate in between the two units sounds right, the previous owner musnt have put it back in. I would love to get a screen based unit but i think i will only have the car for about a year or less so i dont want to spend too much money on it. I think i will get the kenwood one. Do you know if its a case of simply plugging in the new unit in or do i need some wiring adaptors?
