problematic air filter

having only had my pipercross in for about a week.  i am sure the economy is less by about 10% than it was before.  In fact, I just did over 200 miles on the motorway and ended up with 49.1 mpg.  not as good as usual on the motorway thats for sure.  Now my question is this- i presume now there's more air going in, more fuel is needed for the fuel- air mix. so will the ECU manage to change this back to normal after a while, or will it stay like this?? 
Because I'm having the re-map done next wkend should I swap back to original filter now so the re-map is done on a completely standard set-up???  will it make any difference?

whats your outside temp gauge showing??

you'll find that diesels do take a slight hit in economy due to the colder weather

this afternoon it only got down to 4.5 degrees once.  its been colder and has never been effected like this.

is it a panel filter as these dont use any more fuel but the aftermarket external ones seem to

yes its a panel filter. put the original manufacturer one back in today to see if it would make any difference and I'm sure it did- maybe I'm just going mad!!  Are you sure pipercross panel filters don't use any more fuel??  How come?? surely with more air going in, more fuel is needed to balance the air-to-fuel mix?? Or is it the other way round- more air in, less fuel is needed???

well the boys on here told me same fuel use but better breathing for the engine sorry buddy thats all I know

My fuel consumptions about the same with mine fitted and I have also got the Forge TIP fitted.
