Have you checked the crank sensor? Its a favorite meal for these engines.

Sits under/ near the front engine mount.

Sorry for an obvious suggestion, but it does have fuel in it?

Have you made sure fuel is getting to the engine?

Yep half a tank and took the fuel line off then turned it over.....  goes squirted out all over the place so i'd say the pump etc is fine!

Not checked that one yet, i'll do that as well this weekend.

if you can borrow or have vagcom it should tell you if the crank sensor has gone, but that would be my bet to

You'll never guess what it was, when the guy came to recover me the other week he took apart the dizzy cap lead etc to see if they were all wet. When he put it back together, although the leads were in the right order on the cap he had moved them all round the 2 places so, the firing order was out.

so after finding where top dead center was, it pointed the rotor arm at number one on the dizzy cap so icould then put the leads back into the right order. She fired up on the first turn of the key!

At least I have some new bits on the engine now and know allot more about how it all works after taking it all apart, thanks for everyones help on this one.

Cheers bud, i'm well happy now. Although the track rod ends are fooked I don't care!  Just so happy to be driving her again instead of the money sucking Disco!

Yeah very true, I was just going to run it into the ground.... But got onto GSF and ordered up all the parts that need fixing on her, I seem to have found a new love for the old girl.... Untill she dieds again!
