Lower cam belt cover
« on: 26 October 2008, 22:22 »
Hi, having trouble re-fitting the lower cam belt cover after changing the water pump.  for some reason i cannot get it to sit right and now the crank shaft pulley is rubbing on the plastic cover.  is there some special way i need to do this.

i did bend the metal plate somewhat to access the pump and i'm wondering if this is preventing it from sitting right....all tips gratefully received...

ps - is the plate required>?

Wow - it's like a self-answering topic.

The cambelt has guards on it for a reason - it's not the sort of thing you want contaminated with crap from the road.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

I thinks its an MOT fail too.

Just persevere with getting it re-shaped.

Sorry, i wasn't very clear - i would never not use the cam belt cover, i was referring to the tin plate that sits behind the oil pump pulley and partially in front of the water pump.  i've bent it which i think is causing the cam cover not to sit properly and therefore the crank pulley to rub.  anyway, problem solved - new plate from vw coming for £7 trade plus vat....
