g2 2.0 stuttering badly around 90mph

as above. an intermittant fault, but my 2.0 8v mk2 91'gti has started stuttering badly and totally looses power only in 5th gear around the said speed circa 4.5k (cant recall rpm)

in pulls as usual in every gear until it reaches that speed/rpm

iv checkes all connections, leads, vacume hoes etc and have a half tank of v.power. i just cant figure it out!  drove to my friends it happened (motorway) drove back it stopped

any help as usual chaps? [:)]

Try a new set of leads as these things really hate leads that are not 100%.

lift pump you think?  did this only happen at high gears at high speeds?
how much we talking for the pump?

For me the symptom was a noisy main pump as air was bled into the system because the in-tank pump was not doing its job.

In your case I was trying to think what could effect fuel supply with an engine under load and a car moving at speed with half a tank of fuel.  I could be wrong  :undecided:

The pump is about £30 from GSF etc.

sounds like plugs /leads to me.   high speed in high gears is when the enigne is under prolonged load is where a spark related misfire is going to show most
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

i havent been using the car as much recently and is now parked outside. left for 2 days max without use. perhaps the weather setting in also?

the plugs and leads, dizzy and arm/cap were all changed with the conversion < 4 months ago and all vw items.
surely if it were fuel starvation from pump in would be apparent in 3rd and 4th at high revs?  and with the big valve hesd ita allways at 6k!

fuel starvation can do that,   if the main pump sits in what chould almost be called a littel tank so it can push you allong on that for a while  but when cruseing you'll be useing fuel from around pump faster than its arriveing > problem

that chould be it but its still worth checking plugs
all the VW's have gone bar 1.
