Is it ok to run a 16v gti with no ARB?  I have converted my 1.4 to GTI suspenssion etc.. which means changing the wishbones.  sadly this means my ARB is diffrent.   as far as i can see the whole subframe needs to be dropped down to get to the ARB which is really not good as i desperatly need to get the engine in as my hoist broke so i have one on rental.   If its a big no no i will have to swap them over..   is it a big job?   It would fail mot if i left it disconected wouldnt it?

You know how the mk3 suffers from body roll all ready!! Imagine losing the thing thats designed to reduce this.....and more so with the heavier engine and box fitted...
I would swap the wishbones over and fit the larger 22mm roll bars unless you like sea sickness!!

I have swaped it to gti wishbones so its just the ARB i need to change.  but looks like a hell of a job to do without a ramp.

I believe it shouldnt be that bad?? then again Ive only ever changed the bushes...and they were fairly simple

i can see how the bar comes off, that looks quite easy.  but as far as i can see the whole sub frame needs to be dropped down to remove the whole bar.

take off the link bars and the bushes and you should be able to slide the bar out? I beleive it will be a tight fit but should possible to do!!

You can get the arb out through the back of the subframe, undo drop links and pry the to retaining plates apart enough to slide arb through. I fitted H&R arbs which are alot thicker and still managed it didn't have to lower or slacken bolts on subframe. Best to get a mate to help as its fiddly as hell. If you need other info give me a shout. But you need an arb (even if its a stock one).

I have left it off for now and will tackle this one on a ramp!   my 1.8 doesnt have one at all and that isnt any worse than my 1.4 with one. ?  Im not going to go without though!
