Tick over problems on Gti 8V

Hi guys, I am a recent purchaser of a Mk2 Gti 8 Valver, and today experiened a problem...

Car was fine after an hour drive over to a friends house, but when I started it again, in neutrul and with the clutch down the rev's were fluctuating between 1 and 2 thousand. When the car got hotter, it got to between 1200 and 2500 rev's.

I have plenty of mechanically minded VW fiend buddies who I shall get to look into it, but was just wondering if anyone has any ideas...

clean out the idle control valve first with carb cleaner.

yea i second the idle control valve most of the time also if the idle mixture screw is set right as mine was idling fine when cold but once warm he revs sat high. so i waited until it was warm and adjusted it to sit at 900 now te idle is fine

exactly what i did a few weeks ago spot on mine now!!

Could also be the blue temp sensor

You erase the memory on digifant ECU's by disconnecting the blue sensor wire, whilst the engine is running, then rev the engine past 3000rpm 3 times in succession. But you only really need to do this if you are setting up the engines mixture or timing.
