Can't get grills back on :(
« on: 06 May 2008, 00:29 »
Put some Infinity Kappa speakers into the car today, sound ace, waiting to get them amped later this week mind, but the problem I have is the grills for the door speakers won't go back on. Has anyone got suggestions on what to do?
Thanks

Figure out what is stopping them from fitting.  On Mk3s there are some little tabs that slot past the speaker and into the door card, you might find that the speaker is blocking the hole and maybe you can slacken the screws and just hold it in position while you tighten them back up, if there's a little bit of "room to manuever"...

Or you could just chop off whatever bits are in the way.  obviously if you remove too much then the grilles might not clip back in at all.  Might be an idea to get some from a scrappy or something to hack up.
Sold the VR6... Now officially An Old Man With A Passat Estate.  At least it's a 1.8T

Well the speaker sticks out at the bottom left/right (whichever side door you're looking at). I'm not sure why it does this but I'm gonna have another look at how I fitted them as it doesn't make sense a flat speaker sticks out, it's even a little smaller in depth that the stock ones.

Yeah , they are an absolute b****** to get back on. You have to figure out which one is for which side and then which way round it goes on. Just stick at it and you'll know when it is right. It will sit nicely. Look at the clips on the grills and try and line them up with the door ones, then keep turning it round until it fits.

I put Infinity Reference speakers in mine and the covers went back on no trouble, but they only go back on one way.

I'll give them another go on Thursday (get my amp and sub then  :smug:) so hopefully they will go back on with a bit of tinkering.

BTW, LL, I get those lush Polo alloys next week! Almost ready for cruising! LOL!

Same here m8y, my alloys will probs be ready for priming 2moro, just gotta fill all the dings and make them 200% awesome before spraying - preparation is everything.

Anyway, yeah polo wheels look schweet! :)

Good luck with covers; its annoying cause it is supposed to be one of the easy things to do!!!!!!!
