Hi gang,
You've probably talked about this until the cows came home but...
My 2001 Gt-TDi has been problematic from the day I bought it from the dealership. In short, it came down to me to solve the problem which appears to be a faulty MAF sensor. It's been replaced but the one that they fitted appears to be incomplete. If you know the part then you'll see on the outer casing a small wire, almost paperclip-shaped, attached to two small brass-like clips. Well, mine's doesn't have the piece of wire. I've got a pic of the part which is the same as mine and it was then that I noticed the wire was missing from mine.
Bottom line; heavy smoke under acceleration, poor 'dropping in and out of power' throughout the rev range and outrageous fuel economy. I'm currently running the car with the thing disconnected and, although it's not a snappy, it's just better all round with no ugly shuddering etc.
So, in conclusion - do all the models with this type of MAF sensor (Bosch type - PBG PF-30) have this outer wire or just the petrol engines. you can see a pic of the sensor on the link below and you'll clearly see the wire on the outside of the casing that's missing on mine.
Help!!
