have shorted the wires out so know they work ok

and they werent needed for the mot

I'm confused 

it just means the gearbox code is 9a, which is correct for an early valver
the difference is it has a combined upshift light/reverse switch, whereas the 2y box just has a reverse light switch

I thought the 9a gearbox code was for the early 8v? Surley Chuff's 16v is a late model with it being H reg?

Chuff, give me a shout when you get rid of the 9a box currently on the car

so i got an early valver box fitted to my late model golf then

still goes well

9a is an 8v box, basically identical to the 16v box except it has a taller 5th so lower revs on de motorway
