Stereo issues!! And which one?
« on: 06 February 2008, 21:06 »
Ok two questions realy.

I currently have this

Its a great head unit but the screen has trouble connecting and it keeps switching off! i have to lick the terminals every time and its nothing but problems!!  It was sent back when it was coverd still and fine for a few months but it got bad again.

Does any one know if there is a cure?  anything i could do?  If not... Which stereo to get!?

I realy want one with a colour screen! preferably touch screen! but not to pricey.  what sort of stereos are available these days?   What to people recomend.  As long as its colour im open to ideas

Have you tried scratching the termials with the head of a screwdriver or something abrasive. Obvioustly dont go wild the the screwdriver or youll break stuff. With constant removal the contacts sometimes get a bit sh!tty thus loosing connection.

Iv had a JVC unit for 3 years now and its still going strong. even after being eaten by my dog!!

yea i have, i tryed many times and it helps but never lasts long!  the only way to get it to work now is lick it,   I know JVC are realy good head units, i think it must have been a slight design issue.

I has that headunit before and got to say it was the nuts, on mine and my mates the only thing that went wrong with it was the mute button but after 3 years you cant really complain!

I bought this now and have had it in there for a month and got to say its a proper amazing piece of kit and sh!ts on the jvc. Dvd playback, face off, SD card slot, touchscreen too handfree bluetooth connectivity (with built in mic), if anybody is going to get a headunit turst me get this!

It may be unbranded but dont be put off trust me, its the nuts!
Will always love my mk4 but she had to go...225 Quattro TT in its place....but its still black (she lives on in spirit!)

cool it looks nice,   does any one know if a double din can be fitted in a MK3?   Mabey if it was moved to the bottom storage bit.

The top end JVC stuff is damn good in my opinion, and if you really want a colour screen, these are pretty cheap now:

They are even cheaper on ebay IIRC.  Unless you really want the grief of convering to double din.  If you wanted to sell your old unit, PM me!

As a member of the halfrds team..i can say that the JVC units are very good in terms of function, features and all round sound units......however, we do get a higher rate of repair requests for units bought from us on JVC units as of supposed to any of the other brands we sell.
Now that could either be co-incidence for the way in which people operate them, but i'm more directed at perhaps the build quality!! that JVC 551 u have there is a very good unit...touch screen wiv all the motorised screen etc...but even those have had to be sent off to our repair centre to be sorted out!!
common issues wiv JVC's are skipping CD's or trapped CD's...so the general repair process will be re-alligning the lens and giving it all a good clean inside..tends to sort em out!
Why pay big bucks when you can do it yourself???
