throttle bodies

i have a 91 gti 8v and want to make it a bit quicker.as well as doing bits like air filter and exhaust i wondered if it is possible to fit a throttle body off a different engine,does a 16v have a different throttle body,a 2.0 golf or does the g60 have a bigger one as its supercharged.any help would be great.thanks,matt.

why not fit some  r1 carbs as thats the road im looking into heres some info as a guide line

16v throttle body is actually exactly the same size, 2.0 8v throttle body is a totally different shape.  get your old one ported

What exactly does ported mean?..Exactly.

Basically metal is ground off so the port on one part matches the port on the other part that it mates to.  It's also likely that this would involve 'opening up' too, where both apertures are made larger by removing further metal.

It all encourages better air flow and thus free-er breathing.

yeah, what i should have said is smothed/flowed/bored out/knife edge, as the pots on the throttle body & inlet are already matched I believe!

With the throttlew body you grind out as much material as you dare, then smooth out the walls to increase airflow.  Once you've done that, you can work on the edges of the throttle butterfly to make them as smooth as possible, and some even go as far as to modify the linkages so they open at a full 90 degrees.
