K&N filter 33 2001 in a 1989 GTi 8V

I just bout one.

Am I going mad this filter seems to be a lot smaller than the stock one is that right?

Is it the panel filter?  If so there's a smaller one available that was either early 8v (k-jet) or 16v.  You might have got that one by mistake?

Its thinner about the same length.  Been on the K&N web site and it shows that it should be this one to fit my model.

Sounds very similar in size to the wrong one i got from halfords i'm afraid, there were a few alternatives listed and i chose the wrong one. I never did find out which 8v the thinner filter was for. I'm guessing a K-Jet?

Just checked on awesome gti website and the filter you have is for the earlier K-Jet 8v, you need 33 2029 for the later digi.

it should be the same length and width as the orginal filter but 50% THINNER.
