Dynamat on the doors or door cards?????
« on: 29 January 2008, 16:43 »
Hi, just a quick question. I have 4 10" sq's of Dynamat. Now should I stick on the doors or the door cards??!! Never used the stuff before, but can't put up with doors farting any longer!!

Current set up if it helps is as follows:-

1 X Nakamichici CD500

4 X JL Audio VR650 CXi (in the front and rear doors)

1 X Nakamichi PA200 2 channel amp driving :-

2 X VR690 CXi on an MDF Accoustic shelf.

Cheers

as a rule i believe you apply dynamat or similar to the metal under the doorcard.

What do you mean by doors farting?  If it's rattling you're trying to stop, dynamat is not really designed for that, but can result in less rattles.

A small amount would be best used directly behind the door speakers on the outer skin, and then some more on the inner skin around the area where the speaker is mounted.  This obviously depends upon what car it is.

A layer of soft foam sandwiched between the door and card also helps to keep things still.

Car is a mk3 Golf and the speakers mount directly onto the door cards. This is causing them to vibrate and "fart", if you get my meaning!!

I'd do both then! That's what I did on mine! No probs at all an he doors feel more solid and outside noise is quieter!

Look on page 2 of my car thread here: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=60184.0

Wow dubster - that's some work (and cash!) you've put in there!

How do you find the midbass with the speakers playing into such a small enclosure at the rear?  You could probably release a fair bit more if you vent them into the door cavity.

They sound fine to me, but then I've gone from having 13cm front components, so of coure they'll sound bassier! Was thinking whetehr to cut some holes, but I was told not to bother. Have also yet to get the amp set up correctly and working it's best as still waiting for the new rear 7x5's

Cheers!  It's actually another sound deadening material that I bought from a local car paint suppliers. It comes in packs of 10 oblong sheets or 6 larger square sheets. Have probably used about 4/5 packs of that + the Dynamat. It's actually easier to use than Dynamat-it's easier to mould/press it to the metal when heated and sticks better! Is about £15 per pack. When they temporally ran out, I used some from another paint supliers but it wasn't as good as it was more brittle, not quite as thick and harder to mould/press to the metal.
